Blood LampThis design seems an appropriate one to look at given it's the week before Halloween. A lamp which can only be used once, and lights by feeding it your blood. 25th October 2009 |

| /th> | TentOne of the best Tent shows I've been to, really liked the digital section. Some amazing new technology. Its definately fast becoming a more 'Matrix' like world. My favourite was a giant soft rubber ball, which had a skyline on it and stars in the sky, which you could manipulate and move the stars! Also really liked theToko Cage birds! Other highlights were the range of wallpapers. I think interior design is going to get interesting, if not a little overwhelming in the near future. 29th September 2009

Telling TalesReally loved this exhibition, curated extremely well! Small but very effcient, and loved the surrealist theme. Reminded me of Alice in wonderland. Plus some of my favourite designs, including the likes of Fredriksson Stallard, and Studio Job. Of course Tord Boonjte was in the 'Enhanted Forest' room aswell. 25th September 2009

Norwegian PrototypesPrivate view on Brick Lane this time. Think I've worked out Norwegian design now. Its all about geometric shapes, with heavily rounded corners and usually light coloured, untreated wood. Mostly liked the mushroom shaped lamps designed by a lovely guy named Hallgeir Homstvedt. Have suddenly realised how small the design world is today, since half the room did product design at St Martins...only 1, 2, 6, or ten years ago! I don't think the course has changed at all from the sounds of it! 27th September 2009

Heatherwick at Haunch of VenisonWas invited to the launch of the Thomas Heatherwick Extrusions at Haunch of Venison, a beautiful gallery right behind the Royal Academy of Arts, which I'd never heard of before. Will definately go again though. I will be interested to see who buys the Heatherwick pieces and where they are placed. I can imagine them as outdoor furniture, as they're fairly hefty, although they look too precious (and expensive) to keep outdoors. I think somewhere similar to park Guell in Barcelona would suit them amazingly. If he could manage to find a way to create a longer, continuous version which winds around a space-perfect. I actually think though they'll end up lining the corridors of some corportate big wigs office...and never see the light of day again though...hopefully not. 26th September 2009

LomographyLOVE my fisheye camera! So I was excited to be attending the opening of the new Lomo Store near carnaby street. The interior was everything i'd imagined, with some fisheye, holga, diana pics making up the main part of their wall paper. Some of the first pics I took were in Alcatraz cells, and they came out awesomely, although i found they tended to work best when really really close to objects. 4th September 2009

Occam's razor or Ockham's razor, attributed to 14th-century English logician and Franciscan friar, William of Ockham is the principle that "entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily" or, popularly applied, "when you have two competing theories that make exactly the same predictions, the simpler one is the better." The principle states that the explanation of any phenomenon should make as few assumptions as possible, eliminating those that make no difference in the observable predictions of the explanatory hypothesis or theory. When competing hypotheses are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selection of the hypothesis that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities while still sufficiently answering the question. It is in this sense that Occam's razor is usually understood. To quote Isaac Newton: "We are to admit no more causes of natural things than such as are both true and sufficient to explain their appearances. Therefore, to the same natural effects we must, so far as possible, assign the same causes." |
Occams RazorAs someone who tends to over complicate things. I came upon this theorem as a way of making decisions an uncomplicating them. Just follow Occams Razor. Simple is best. 23rd September 2009

Spring ProjectsNienke Klunder and a man whose name I can never pronounce correctly, but whose designs I love, Jaime Hayon, exhibiting 'American Chateau Room One' at the Spring Projects in Kentish town. And I was lucky enough to go to thier private view. A combination of product design/sculpture, photography and ceramics. Who says you have to specialise these days!? 23rd September 2009

The Wapping Project Presents...Design Is Simply ComplexI enjoyed this private view, as I'd never been to the Wapping Project before, nice space, and I liked how they showed the processes as well as the finished products. I think that's what makes the difference between a compelling design exhibition and a showroom or shop. See www.dazediggital.com to get the lowdown. 23rd September 2009

Celebrating 55DSLAwesome party during Notting Hill Carnival. Once inside the pub, to be found were 'beautiful people', hot tub with numerous scantily clad men (and only men!), wicked dj's, a couple of celebs, a live MC inside, and also a dress up room with photo studio! Lots of fun...shame we couldnt get out of Notting Hill due to the carnival chaos after we'd partied til we couldn't party no more! Well worth it though! 1st September 2009 |
The Best Bus Ride Of My LifeNo really, THE BEST. This guy is an absolute legend! Have been meaning to post this for a while. Filmed whilst driving up the Strip in Vegas earlier this year. Would only happen there right!? But just imagine if all the bus drivers in London were the same, I don't think people would mind so much paying to get on the bendy buses any more! PS.
